2020 was the year in which everything was a bit different than usual and that was, of course, also true for the Night of the Refugee. We launched a digital edition of the event, which enabled the thousands of participants to walk in their own environment via an app and thus still participate. On World Refugee Day, 20 June, everyone walked the last kilometres alone, yet together.
11 and 12 September 2021
What this year will look like is still uncertain. Therefore, we do not yet know exactly what this will mean for the organisation of a large event such as the Night of the Refugee. But we do know one thing for sure: this year, we want to walk fixed routes together again! Of course, in doing so, we will take into account, in every way possible, the governmental recommendations that are valid at the time. And because we hope that the measures will be relaxed bit by bit, we will postpone the event once only by a few months. This year we will walk in the weekend of 11 and 12 September.
40 KM in 6 cities
We will be running in six cities this year; Rotterdam, Haarlem, Utrecht, Arnhem, The Hague and Tilburg and you start and finish in the same city. The 40 kilometer route starts on Saturday, September 11 at 00:00. Participants have until Sunday 12 September 12:00 to walk to the finish.
We take into account the currently applicable government advice. We have therefore carefully considered the conditions under which the Night of the Refugee can take place this year. Your safety is our top priority, which is why a maximum of 250 participants can participate per route. Whether we can allow more participants depends on the possible relaxation later in the year.
Because the organization entails more risks for us this year and we can accept fewer participants, we ask for a minimal sponsor contribution for this edition. When collecting € 250.00 you are assured of a starting ticket! You have until September to fund this amount. And more is always allowed of course!
What remains unchanged? Together we walk through the night to draw attention to refugees and to collect as much money as possible for emergency relief anywhere in the world. The number of starting tickets is limited, so register quickly and participate.
